11 killed in twin suicide bombings in Iraq; ISIS claims responsibility
A pair of suicide bombings in southern Iraq
killed at least 11 people and wounded 13 others,
including children, state-run Al-Iraqiya TV said.
ISIS released a statement on Twitter claiming
responsibility for the attack Sunday in Samawa,
about 155 miles (250 km) south of Baghdad.
In the statement, the terrorist group said an assailant
"blew up his car in the middle of a gathering of the
Shiite Ministry of Interior Special Forces (al-
Maghaweer forces). He killed and wounded a
number of them."
When Shiite security forces arrived at the bomb site,
a second attacker "blew up his car and killed more
people," ISIS said.
The carnage in Samawa came as Baghdad's Green
Zone was engulfed in chaos. Saturday, hundreds,
perhaps thousands, of protesters rushed the normally
off-limits area for government buildings and foreign
embassies. They were intensely angry and broke into
Parliament, ransacked rooms and sat at lawmakers'
desks while gesturing at cameras that captured the
scene.
