NIGERIAN teenage international, Kelechi
Iheanacho, has declared that Manchester City
would shock star studded Real Madrid in
today’s UEFA Champions League semi final at
Etihad.
Iheanacho told City’s official website that they
would strive to win the first leg and take the
advantage to the Bernabeu for the return leg.
In his words: “We really need to win here
(Etihad) because at their home it’s not going
to be an easy game. It’s a great achievement
for the club to be in the last four of the
tournament but it would be a dream to get to
the final so we’re really hoping for that.”
Iheanacho who banged in a brace in City’s
last weekend’s comprehensive 4-0 demolition
of Stoke City in the EPL said the victory had
put the club in the right mood to get past
Real.
“The game against Stoke was great
preparation for us before we play Real Madrid.
On Tuesday, (today) we need to be focused
and work hard because Real is a good side.
We are prepared to face them,” Iheanacho
said.
Abandoned match: Giwa incurs more fine
THE disciplinary board of Nigeria Football
Federation (NFF) yesterday upheld the
sanctions slammed on Giwa FC by the League
Management Company (LMC) even as it
further punished the club.
The disciplinary body in a release made
available to Daily Sunsports, disclosed that
apart from endorsing the initial fines imposed
on the club , she had slammed another
N500,000 fine on the team for failing to
cooperate with it.
The release stated in part: “The NFF
Disciplinary Board further noted that for failure
to cooperate with the Disciplinary Board which
is a breach of Art. 42.1 of the FIFA
Disciplinary Code, Giwa FC is hereby further
fined the sum of N500,000 which is to be paid
to the NFF as procedural cost for the NFF
Disciplinary Board this decision is in line with
Art. 59.1 of FIFA Code of Ethics.”
The NFF disciplinary board noted that Giwa FC
failed to honor the invitation extended to it to
defend itself after it incurred LMC’s wrath.
“The NFF Disciplinary Board wishes to state
clearly that adequate invitation notice was
served to GIWA FC requesting that they
forward their written submission to the
secretariat of the NFF Disciplinary Board and
also appear before the Board on 25th April,
2016 by 10:00am. This invitation was not
honoured by GIWA FC,” the release stated.
It would be noted that the LMC had last week
fined Giwa a total of N6.75m over the
abandoned week 11
game against Rangers. The LMC had further
ordered the last 16 ml.
